Writing a proxy for Components - Both In house developed and Third Party components

    User Geetha (rodricksg@logica.com.nospam) posted:

We are using Robot to test a GUI application developed using Borland
Builder and Third Party components and some components that we have
    developed in house.
We were able to drive the testing by setting properties for most of the
    components.
Some components - the Third party Grid Type Data components where we need
to read the data contents - we cannot view any properties etc because they
are Third party and they become type Generic. We want to avoid copying to
clip board as well as moving tab keys.
Does anyone know of anyother options ?
I have heard about this Proxy for GUI components not supported by
Rational. Has anyone implemented it? If so are there going to be surprises
    when we develop it?
Where can I get more information about it?
Rational Tech support have not helped us on this much at all saying it is
a customisation and not a product problem.

    Thanks in advance

    Regards
    Geetha

Life (especially work) is full of things we don't want to do, I'd rather not
    work with Robot but...

If you can't get the third party to expose their controls, and you can't use
    other controls, then your stuffed.

With the grids can you see the contents of them in inspector but above the
    properties (something like contents)?

How do you expose controls - Do u mean the Published properties in
    Borland?

With grids - Which inspector - At design time I use the object Inspector.

At Run time Testing the Robot calls it Generic and so bang no properties
    are availiable for testing

    Thanks

I used Delphi at my last job, we started off by copying cells to the
clipboard. We had 2 German students doing some work experience, they found
that by creating a VP that failed on purpose a temporary file was created.
Although this has all the grid stuff in, it does take a fair bit of work to
strip out the information. It worked on some other controls as well.

Their names were David Bachmann & Patrick Grimme, I could try to email them
if you want, but I know they sometimes read here.
