Testmanager crashed and it won\'t boot up

    User Cole, Huw (huw.cole@eds.com.nospam) posted:

    Hi Kirk,
If u r using a MS Access database for the datastore try opening the database
with Access, if its magically become corrupted by the Bill Gates fairies
then the correction wizard should pop up. Run this and your problem should
go away. Then do yourself a huge favour and use a SQLAnywhere db that's
infinitly more stable by installing SQAAnywhere on your server and going
into Administrator, connect to your project, right-click on the test icon
thingymagig, properties, and use the change datastore type.
    If u r using SQLAnywhere then I haven't a clue.

also check in your script directory and make sure that there are no .lock files in there. because this sometimes causes errors with the Access database

    Re: Access vs. SQLAnywhere

I've had problems with both, but long ago decided to use Access
    exclusively.

Access Problems: Back in '97-98, the Access database in a test repository
on a Novell file server became corrupted 5-6 different times while left
open over night. Each time I ran the repair utility, it destroyed most of
the tables, rendering the db worthless. In each case, I resolved the
issue by creating a new repository (with fresh access db), inputting the
missing table data (there's not much to input when you don't use the
built-in test cases, TM, etc.) and copying the library and script files to
    the new repo.
I have not had any Access database corruption problems in the last 4+
years, possibly due to Rational upgrading from Access 2.0 (which was
    notoriously unstable) to Access 97.

SQLAnywhere Problems: In general, I like SQLAnywhere, and have even tested
applications that use it. But, when using for Robot repositories in
'97-98, the !@#$ database server frequently disconnected the test client
for no apparent reason (this crashed Robot every time). This occured
numerous times during script replay and when Robot was idle. Rational
tech support was never able to help me resolve this issue. None of the
suggested options settings changes helped at all. It may have had
something to do with our network using IPX protocol at the time (have
    since switched to TCP/IP).

    HTH,

    Luke

The Data Store has become corrupt. Until it is fixed you will not be able to
open it. Rational have a command line utility (See Rational Support) thank
can do this for you. I have used it in the past and it work every time for

Actually, you have a corruption that's pretty easy to fix. Go to your
Control Panel and open Data Sources (ODBC). On the User DSN tab, scroll
down the list and highlight 'MS Access Database' then click 'Configure'.
Now click 'Repair' and browse to the directory where your Rational Project
lives, and select the TestDatastore folder. You need to repair tds.mdb,
then go back in and repair datastore.mdb. You should be able to run the
tools successfully after making the repairs.

You actually have 2 tds.mdb databases, if you search for them in the project
directory you will find them, you need to repair them both.
