I have used Mercury's WinRunner product on QA projects this past 6 or so months. I am also currently working on getting the Mercury vendor certification for the tool. I just found out that my company is going to engage in a major project that will use the Rational tools, which includes Robot for the QA effort. Does anyone know both of these products well? Are they similar? Will I be able to quickly assimilate to Robot based on my experience with WinRunner
I have used Robot for the past 2 or so years and am currently looking at Mercury. One notable difference is the fact that Robot does not have a GUI Map file. The language is VB (like). There may be other differences but I think you will convert to Robot well.
I would ask myself WHY you would need to change over in the first place. Having invested in Mercury tools, why are they changing or considering using Rational now?
"if it works, leave it well alone....if it does not work......ditch it!"
It wasn't like the project sponsors decided to ditch Mercury. The company still uses Mercury but this particular project is working with a partner co. that has already started the process and they use the Rational tool set and development approach.
