Has anyone used the rational test suite to test SAP applications?

    Joe

I carried out an evaluation of SAP 4.6 with Robot recently.

I discovered that the only way to test SAP using Robot was to use the
Rational ERP gui utility. If you wish to test SAP standalone then Robot
does not recognise all the objects in a SAP window therefore Robot uses
co-ordinates to record test scripts. This means the scripts are
susceptible to cosmetic changes to the application and the properties of
the components cannot be checked therefore limiting the verification of a
window. Image compare and OCR can be used to verify and capture data from
the SAP windows however this would involve extra effort to keep the
scripts updated. I also noticed that the SAP menu is not recognized and
recorded properly by Robot when SAP is displayed with the new look and
feel. If you use classic SAP look and feel then Robot recognises and
    records the menu correctly.

If you use the Rational ERP gui utility then you should be OK, however I
did not look at this thoroughly because we utilise SAP through Vantive
thus all the testing would be equivalent to testing SAP standalone.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions then please feel free to
    email me.

The Rational ERP gui utility can be found by clicking the Start button
    then:
Programs -> Rational Team Test -> Rational Test -> Erp -> Rational ERP gui

Run the Rational ERP gui utility and enter the Host Name (server) and the
System Number (port number) and then click connect. This will take you to
the SAP login screen and you can interact with SAP in the same manner as
usual. Note that this is SAP running through the Rational ERP gui
utility. You can now record your scripts as usual.

    Hope this helps.
