Using .csv files as baseline, I have many limitations as they do not hold

One big advatage of CSV is that you don't have to install (and license)
Excel for your test agent maschines. You could design your tests and excel
tables on your primary system and deploy only the csv's to the lab maschines
that execute the scripts. Another one is the memory use. An instance of
excel occupies some 8 Megs of RAM, which might influence your test results.
That's about all that I can think of now.
