This is a wild guess but "As soon as I click the object properties selector " is this on the select object window or before? Is it when you try and drag the object finder? If it is after try the browse and see if you can find your window that way.
Another way is try and get the inspector and when the window appears try and use the inspector and see what happens. Good luck
