    Tools for Creating Test Data

    User Mark Vontsolos (mark_vee@hotmail.com.nospam) posted:

I am looking for an application similar to Compuware's FileAid/CS that will
enable me to create test data based on data that is within an existing
database. I want to be able to specify that I have ten records in a table
that will meet certain criteria. It needs to maintain all the referential
integrity that is in the original database.

The application also needs to be capable of comparing two databases and
    noting disparities.

If anyone knows of a decent application that has this functionality please
let me know. Also if anyone has any experience with FileAid, I would like to
    hear your opinion.
    Thanks,
    Mark

My experience with file aid was mixed. It did have some useful stuff, but
when I was trying to work on a particular DB (can't remember might have
been Sybase) the version I had did not handle indexes.

At present I use Rational Robot to enter stuf into the application from an
excel spreadsheet saved as a csv file. To be honest for the application I
am working on it is the best way of doing it, and file aid would not be.
It is also quite good as putting data directly into tables assumes the
application handles this properly, whilst populating via the application
    tests that as well.

    Regards

    Dave

I have some experience with FileAid. Why don't you want to continue with fileaid? I'm presuming you have FileAid C/S. The experience was about 12 months back but I can get access to FileAid

Also for user david marsh what FileAid version were you using as there are several. It does work with Sybase so maybe the version you have did not include the conversion bits.
