i am trying to place text onto a office97 word document; i'm on an nt
running robot 2001a.04.00.
i execute a shell to open word document1
channel = ddeinitiate("winword","system")
and get channel returned as 1
i then do
ddepoke channel,"page1","HELLOW WORLD"
but no text appears on document1 and if i follow ddepoke command
with a pokeerror = ddeappreturncode()
i get pokeerror returned as 16393
any one have an idea how i could write text on a word doc using dde

Why don't you use COM or CreateObject, both are well documented on MSDN and
in this group in the archives.
Shell? That is like shelling to DOS to create a new office document, people
just don't do it any more because there are easier was to do that.
