    PVCS and test cases.

    User Brian Heng (sqa@hdcsi.com) posted:

Mark,John, all..... I'm a bit behind in reading this SQA stuff. I'm
interested in the PVCS thread. Do you use PVCS? If so, do you check Test
Cases into PVCS? If so, how? If not, how would you go back a version if
test cases are not stored in version control. We're on SQA 6.2.

We have recently gone back a version and added 2 versions between. We
used PVCS to store spread sheets, .sbl's, and .sbh's. Unfortunately, not
the .sbx's. (Realizing we probably should have PVCS'd them(because of
compiling dependencies), we added .sbx's in build 101.8 [see below for our
versions]). We have the SQA Repository copied to disk for each build.

We were on build 102 and then went back to 101.4 We copied the SQA
Repository from 101.4 build to our work area. We did a 'get' through PVCS
for the spread sheets, .sbl's and .sbh's and have built 101.5 and 101.8
(don't ask why we skipped a couple of numbers). Now when we're going
forward again (with a prospect of going back again to create 101.7) to
build 102 we've added a lot of code between 101.4 and 102...and the test
cases that are out there for 101.8 won't work in 102. How do we handle
this situation? We wouldn't want to copy the whole SQA Repository,
because that would overlay all of the new code. Mostly what we will need
is the test cases? How do we do this? Do we have to re-run our code and
replace master files as needed??? (Please don't say "yes".)

Thanks for any help that you can give.

John, Since I don't work with Visual Basic projects I'll tell you what
we've done with PVCS thus far. We have put the following into PVCS:
    .sbh files
    .sbl files
.sbx files (because they would have to be compiled in a specific order
because of dependencies and would take forever to get the compiling done
in the correct order when changing versions)
    .xls files (excel spread sheets)
    .rec files

The workfile location is the same location as the file itself.

Our concern now lays with Test Cases (we're on SQA 6.2). Do we put the
.inf .grm, .grf, .g0(9) (with (9) being a failed file number) into PVCS?
If so, how does the SQA database play a part if we go back or forwards in
    versions?

Is this the information you need from us?

Looks like you have most of it right for the scripts, but you need to add
    the [Project Directory]
    \TestDatastore\DefaultTestScriptDatastore\TMS_Scri pts\vp directory to PVCS.
These are the files that make up the Verification Points in your scripts. As
for the .inf, .grm, .grf, .g0(9) files, I don't have these file types in my
project or know anything about them. I have version 2001a though.
