Has any of you experienced testing middleware?
My potential client has asked me whether TestStudio could be any help on
finding bugs on middleware that they have developed. They developed a sort
of TP monitor using JAVA and C++ with CORBA interface.
It seems that TestStudio can only deal with Desktop executable applications
or web applications on the browser. What I'm not sure about TestStudio's
ability is whether it can be used on distributed dll's alike, such as
COM/DCOM/COM+ or RMI, CORBA/IIOP, etc.
I'm sure you can monitor some response using these protocols when testing
But, what if there are serious defects in server/middleware-side codes, not
just some sort of delays?
Well, I think I'm talking about white-box testing. Can Purify, Quantify,
PureCoverage, TestFactory still be a help?

Frankly, I'm lost in the middle of these testing stuff, and I don't know
much about C/S system, so, lots of help could be appreciated.

In short and I won't go into the details here as that is an implementation
issue, you can test middleware as you refer to it with Rational and most any
other testing application.
