Is there a cost to declaring recognition methods (for parent/child windows
etc.) as constants in a header? In the long run, will this prove to be a
waste of time, or will this save me any?

Did anyone respond to this one? Yes? No?
Are you a consultant? Do you get paid by the number of lines of code generated?
Hmmm....what is the cost?
Using the constants will prove to be of great savings and importance the further down the automation road you get.
It is only a waste of time if this is a one shot test deal, and you never expect to test another release or another version.
In virtually every other case (well, almost), it is time well spent.
