    Winrunner info

    User Balakrishnan, Krishnamurthy (bala@atex.fi) posted:

    Hi all,

Does anyone have the experience of using both winrunner and Rational
    Teamtest?

At present we have Rational Teamtest and we are using it quite extensively.
We have a new project coming up and we would like to investigate the
possibilities of using Winrunner for that. Unless Winrunner is significantly
better than Teamtest, we would prefer to stick with Teamtest.

So if anyone has used both the tools, kindly let me know your opinion.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Bala

I use rational robot here and used Winrunner at my previous job, I prefer
winrunner, but not so much that I would try to get this company to change.

Why is that? We're currently eval'ing SilkTest, WinRunner, and Robot.

I'm concurrently working 2 assignments. Client1 uses Mercury (WinRunner,
etc.) and Client2 uses Rational (Robot, etc.). I have used both products
for years. They both have strong and weak areas. For most situations, I
don't think a switch provides much benefit. You didn't list any specifics
about why feel the need to consider WinRunner, so it is almost impossible to
    provide a solid recommendation.

Both have advantages, I have used both and find that I like them for there
differences. It would depend on what you are doing as to which one is best,
if you can have both at the same job then you would have the best of both
worlds. I will say that Rational is better on Web testing.

I prefered the GUI map stuff, I have found it hard to get at all the info I
wat with Robot, it was a bit easier with winrunner, but that may be unfair
because the 2 companies used different languages. Also Winrunner had
    company supported forums.

I can do all I need with robot, just takes a bit more effort at times.

I tend to agree and the GUI Map Editor makes it much easier to add custom
objects, I have yet to see this functionality in Robot. This is a real
advantage to Mercury. On the minus side, Rational's Tech Support is far
better than Mercury's Support, but Mercury's Web Page offers a lot more
information than Rational's so I am more likely to find what I need on
    Mercury's web page than Rational's.

The import feature , which allowed you to move data from one PC to another,
or from one project to another, has been completely removed. I would really
like to know how Rational came to decide that we don't need the import
    feature..
Funny, how a company that claims to have a full development path solution,
from inception to release, doesn't take into account user feedback for its
    own software release.

Anyway, according to rational support, many users have complained about
this, and the feature will be restored in version 2002, due in the fall.
There will also be a patch in June, but it will not restore the feature.

    Hi all,

Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond to my query. Our concern with
    Rational Teamtest is as follows.

    1. The object names of our applications are going to be generated
dynamically at run-time. We are not sure how well Teamtest can handle this.
    2. We were doing fine with the Repository idea in Rational Teamtest. But in
2001, we found that the Repository idea has been totally scrapped. It has
now become very cumbersome to move between projects or move scripts between
    projects.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Bala
