Looking for your own opinions here:
Have to create a regression test pack for a new quotes system for our company which will have an interface that is a rich web application.
Selenium was suggested by an outside vendor, but I have no experience in using this tool at all - my knowledge would be with Rational Robot.
Basically I'm wondering what you would recommend using for the regression test ?
Please note 1. the test cases data will be retrieved from XMLs produced by the UI originally; 2. this is a full regression test, including screenshot and output docs comparison etc - can Selenium be easily manipulated to do this ? 3. There will also be a lot of conditional coding required around various fields and test products etc - again can Selenium easily do this ?
Sorry for all the questions - its just that I'm leaning towards Robot myself but that could be mainly due to my own knowledge etc of the tool - but i would still take into account your expert opinions.
Also licenses are not an issue for Robot, have plenty of them to use here.
The new application is an ExtJs app. So far in the prrof-of-concept test the Robot seems to be handling all ok - but have any of you had any experience in using Robot in ExtJs, and if so have you had any major problems etc - or anything that would lead you away from using Robot with it ?
I've moved away from robot about 2 years ago and haven't looked back. Robot is antiquated and not well supported anymore. When I moved to a new company I was given the reigns to choose a new tool and I eventually went with Ranorex. I used to be a Robot expert and changing tools was a little tough but the support I got from the guys at Ranorex made the transition much easier.
So, I'm sorry I can't help with your specific problem, just in relative terms.
