Dynamic Object Recognition Issues
Hello. Having a heck of a time with object mapping of our application for creating functional tests. A lot of AFX: classes are used, as well as custom controls. I was very good with Rational Robot and using object names for dynamic scripts, but I'm a little bit behind in the latest technologies. IBM's solution is to use regular expressions, but in my opinion they are hard to read, and a lot of them end up having problems recognizing or uniquely identifying children objects, if that makes sense. Does anyone have any expertise to share either via a web site or by experience in how to approach the mapping. (Our application is a C++ app using the MFC framework).
Did you check the IBM help pages?

There do a search on regular expressions and you'll find all there is to learn about regular expressions in Rational Functional Tester.
Another solutions is just ask the developers to override the autogenerated IDs and supply ones your automation can use. This is generally more maintainable and object look ups by IDs are much faster than regexs.
Is this Facets application you are talking.
If yes I been working for a while.
