I'm currently working with QTP (for the last two years)
My boss asked me to compare between QTP to other (cheaper) tools (Rational, Compuware...)
Did someone have some kind of comparison document - it will save me a lot of time
Unlikely you are going to find anything really useful, written by others that is an appropriate comparison for you apps, working environment and team's skillset.
One thing to keep in mind: the cost of becoming proficient and expert with any of these tools is the real cost, not your yearly license fees. So if you decide to switch to a tool that is say 50% cheaper per/user/year licensing (and I doubt you will find one with the same power as has QTP) you payback will be many years down the road (assuming that after two years of using QTP you are solidly proficient).
But as with all things of this nature, others will have different opinions.
If you already have the tools and assuming they still work with the application why change.
If its about maintenance fees just don't pay them anymore. HP support isn't worth a cracker anyway.
But if you must go down the path of looking at other tools most vendors will let you use a demo license do a comparisson on your own AUT and see which tool is the best fit. But you should never use cost as the main critier (spelling) of choice.

Ian, that quote was directed at the original poster's boss.

And today is one of those days... Where I feel real dumb...
It has been a long week but we have a long weekend coming up here and I am so looking forward to that. I might just line the XR6 Turbo up for some nice driving roads and add to my carbon foot print in a big way.
I'm given the same assignment to compare automation tools. People are saying QTP is the best choice among other tools, but I need to provide what aspect of the tool is good. Let us know if you know another thread with better answers. Thanks!
