Duplicate objects added to Object Repository

Forgive me for asking what must surely be a redundant question (although searching the FAQ's and forum didn't find it), but I'm having a problem with duplicate Browser objects being added to the OR.

Looking at the description in the OR, both Browser objects have the exact same sedcription, and changing the name of the recorded script to reference the "original" object still allows the script to run.

A topic similar to your query:
    http://www.sqaforums.com/showflat.ph...;Number=214105

(was kinda tricky to find that out [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] ; i used keyword +browser_2 in the advance search). There are a few more relevant results you might want to explore

Re: Duplicate objects added to Object Repository

The above link claims you can fix this by a QTP setting. I have not found this to work. If you are using QTP 9.x you can drag-n-drop objects recored in the duplicate parent containers (in your current case browser pages) into the original parent.

If you are using version 8.2 you have no alternative that I am aware of.

Have you thought about adding objects manually (either OR or DP)?

Re: Duplicate objects added to Object Repository

Terry, you are right: the correcting QTP Settings - will not undo the dublicates that are done already. It will help to avoid such a problem in the next Recording.
As for version 8.2 - it was cool little application "AORE", created by David Gilbert long ago [before QTP 9.x] to help us to clean up messed Repository. It did amzingly this job. Then Mercury has implemented something similar in 9.0
I believe, AORE works for QTP8.x
The guys, who are working with QTP in its early ages should remember it [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

And coming back to initial question in the thread...
    I would suggest:
    1. Correct QTP settings
    2. Record your script from scatch one more time.
I think, for beginners - the scripts are not so complicated and heavvy to spend much time to fix it. It might be redone from A to Z: clean and correct.

Re: Duplicate objects added to Object Repository

    Thanks for the responses.

    1) I have tried every permutation of the QTP and IE settings I can think of (including the ones mentioned), with no luck.
    2) The browser object in question is already in the OR. QTP just doesn't see them as the same when I'm recording (even though the properties it adds in the OR are identical to the properties of the existing object).
    3) I am recording a brand new script.

The only other suggestion I see is in the attached thread, which I don't fully understand. What does, "you might want to check your creation-time properties as well" mean? It is recording the object with "Creation Time, 0". I have tried changing the Ordinal Identifier for the Browser Object to be Index, also with no effect.

    Thanks,

    -Scott

Need to see your screens with Settings.
    I feel, you missed something...

Re: Duplicate objects added to Object Repository

I appreciate your thoroughness... Attached are screen shots of every setting I've tried to modify. Also, as an example of the code:

    <font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>
<font color="green">'This is how it records this click</font>
    Browser("Trax_2").Page("Trax").Frame("Navigation") .Link("To-Do List").Click

<font color="green">'If I just rename the browser object it references, the script runs fine also:</font>
    Browser("Trax").Page("Trax").Frame("Navigation").L ink("To-Do List").Click
    </pre><hr />

    Thanks,

    -Scott

Re: Duplicate objects added to Object Repository

    You need this settings:
    Tools --&gt; Options --&gt; Web --&gt; Page/Frame Options...

    ScreenShot is attached.

Re: Duplicate objects added to Object Repository

I ran into the exact same problem. Do you recall how this was fixed??

I do have the page/frame options set to "different test object descriptions" with no luck.
