Environment ("envId") = order_number
while executing the above step i am getting an error saying
"envid" is a built in or external variable you cannot modify its value
it was working fine earlier
please do help

Nope. If you do that that would make the variable read only.
I'm curious, why is Environment.Value superior to Environment? Or in other words, why did the Environment break?

Environment only will work on variable that has already been defined.
I defined the variable in the .xml file but it does not set to a default value
do we need tio define a default value to all the values defined in a .xml file
Well if you don't a value then you should get it empty but defining it in a XML would mean you cannot modify until you use your own code to load the XML.
