Test run gives an error message.

After clicking on Run,then selecting the options of Temporary run results folder, a pop window gets opened with the error message "Unable to create the specified run results folder. The folder must be new, empty, or contain only quickTest run results."

The default folder where QTP is trying to save the test result is comepletely empty. Is there any default file that needs to be there in that file to have QTP save the test result there or someother setting that I am missing.

Thanks,

Can a folder be created manually in the enclosing parent folder? If not this is likely the problem.

Can you please guide me to - how to determine whether a folder can be created manually in the enclosing parent folder.

Re: Test run gives an error message.

I got this issue before and I reported to HP, but as usual they didn't know how to solve it.
Usually the issue occurs when you don't run the test fully; meaning if you stop your test in the middle - for debugging - and then try to run it gain.
The reason: QTP doesn't clear the temp results from your previous run.
Solution: you have to delete the temp results manually, or change your run mode and save the results into your test run folder.
To delete the temp results:
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\userName\Local Settings\Temp
and delete all the TempResults files.

By the way this issue happens intermittently.

Re: Test run gives an error message.

Thanks for the reply.I have also reported the issue to HP but awaiting reply. I could use the temp results folder till couple of days back but all of a sudden cannot use it since yesterday.Since it was giving the error message "The folder must be new,empty....",I have already deleted the temp results folder.

I am running the entire test at a time no break due to any reason. I want to save the final test script whaich is ready to used for the application in the test folder. Till I am making changes in the script after every run , I wanted to save in the temp folder so that I can keep on deleting the contents of the temp folder rather than the test folder.

Any other solution how to use the temp folder.

I get this with 9.2, every 2 or 3 weeks as my temp folder is full, as Chilly suggests I cleardown the folder. To cleardown all files I have to ensure QTPro.exe & Mercury.exe processes are not running.

Mark,

I have 9.2 too.

I did clear down the temp folder just now again as suggested but no luck.

I do have this problem on one of my QTP machine, cleared temp files as Chilly suggested and it solved the problem.

Re: Test run gives an error message.

Again,I have done so but my problem did not get solved. I have completely cleared the contents of the temp folder and the folder is empty.
Is it possible that there has to be some default folder in the temp folder which I had deleted unknowingly

I cleared all my temp files.

close QTP and give a try running this.
C:\Program Files\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\bin\QuickTestProfessional.bat
