There is some good new-user advice in the stickies on this forum.
I came from WR to QTP myself, and found the transition to be pretty easy. Object Repository vs. Gui Map is basically the same thing. Script creation is basically the same thing, just a different scripting language - anyone who can script in TSL can handle VBScript just fine.
Probably the only major difference is the built-in datatables and QTP's insistence on running iterations based on those tables. It does simplify parameterizaion compared to storing the same data in an external .xls file, but the transition to QTP's iteration process is a bit bumpy.
Other than that, it's all pretty much the same with a different look and feel.
