VPN - Remote Desktop Issue - Can\'t Access Object R
I don't see an answer to this so I'm seeing if anyone else has run across this.
I have my main desktop that has QTP installed and accesses the license server happily. While working directly with this desktop, I am able to view the object repository fine.
However, if I work from home, I have to get "inside" my work network through VPN. Once inside, I access the above main desktop by using Remote Desktop. I have to do this so I'm on the same subnet as my license server.
Everything works great except for one weird thing. I am unable to open my object repository. I can spy on objects and I am able to view the properties for an individual object, but I can't open the whole thing. I need to rename an object in my repository, but I'm stuck because I can't get the dang thing open to view it.
Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas to troubleshot or how to work around?
Re: VPN - Remote Desktop Issue - Can\'t Access Object R
Once logged into the PC via Remote Desktop, you can start QTP (thereby connecting correctly to the license server), and then work with QTP in all ways except being able to open the shared OR?
1. Check to see if your login credentials are somehow different when you login directly to the PC, verus a Remote Desktop login--talk with the IT folks and see if they somehow restrict you privileges in some subtle way when you initially connect thru VPN (shouldn't but you never know with security driven folks and all the network hackers these day).
2. With the laptop connected at work, on the internal intranet, does this problem still occur?
3. Is the shared OR located on a different network PC than the test script resides? (For example you could be running QTP on your PC, accessing the test script files on PC#2 and the shared OR from PC#3). If this is the case, here again you might have a login credentials problem.
4. What is the exact error message when you attempt to open the OR when connected via Remote Desktop?

Re: VPN - Remote Desktop Issue - Can\'t Access Obje
Okay, I may have figured it out.
I have dual monitors for my desktop. But when I do the VPN Remote Desktop thing, it looks like I only have one monitor. Even looking at the display settings shows one monitor.
However I did some tests, inside the network, just using remote desktop from my laptop to the desktop. I made sure the display settings showed one monitor. Then I opened QTP and opened the repository then stopped the remote desktop. Once I logged on to the desktop again, goofy as it seems, my object repository was open on the other monitor!
I guess my work around is to change my display settings while physically near this desktop. Viewing through remote desktop doesn't accurately show my settings. Maybe I'll see what VNC does...
Thanks for you help!
