I have just installed QTP 9.2 with the .NET add-in and would very much like to prowl through a simple .NET app which only uses native controls, as the the proto AUT I am about to test uses several different 3rd party controls. So, if possible, I would like a VW to evaluate before I move to a customized street rod...
For example I would love to be able to use the Flight demo program that ships with QTP, but it is written with vanilla windows controls.
So, is there perhaps a recent MS app of some sort that was downloaded when the .NET framework was first installed, or when I applied the 2.0 framework update, that someone could point out that meets my needs? Or is there a simple demo program I can download from the Mercury support site (that I did not find when I just prowled around there)?
3. Then click on the "v2.0 TaskVision" link and follow the instructions to download the ZIP file.
Once downloaded, unzip in any directory and then:
4. Drill down into the <dir>\TaskVision\TaskVisionVB\TaskVision\bin \Release (sigh...) directory.
5. There is a bug that you need to fix at this point. Copy the ..\debug\Images directory and it's contents to the current directory (which is the ...\Release directory).
Now to run the program double-click on the TaskVision.exe file. The login is "jdoe" and the password is "welcome" (this information is defined in the Read_Me_First.txt file that is located in the top level unzip directory).
This sample program provides what appears to me to be lots of good 2.0 native .NET controls to work with as well as several .NET Forms such as the login window, the main window, etc.
I was just able to successfully interact with the app and several of the controls using QTP 9.2 with the version 9.2 .NET Add-in installed and the .NET and WPF Add-ins loaded.
This should be useful for others who want to determine if they have installed everything correctly and that QTP 9.2 with the .NET Add-in appears to be working correctly.
It would be very nice if Mercury supported a simple .NET application sample of this nature--but now you have an alternative.
Re: any .NET Forms apps only using Native Controls
Mercury's support priorities are as much a mystery as the Holy Trinity...
This type of "support" is exactly what both junior and senior testheads need--so now we have it thanks to contributors to this thread. Also note that in the Microsoft link I referenced above you will find some .NET 1.1 apps as well.
Today, the big, complex, monster .NET 2.0 app to be tested, with a ton of 3rd party controls (yet unknown to me, but a meeting this afternoon should solve that) will get installed on my PC. Knowing that a simple basic .NET works is going to help me a great deal to quickly zero in on custom control issues (I am hoping we are using all Infragistics controls, as their web site surely looks like their extension package well supports QTP).
P.S. Search words/phrases to find this thread: ".net sample application", ".net forms application", "forms.net application"
