    QTP Vs TEstParner

    Hi,

Is there any reason why we need to go for TestPartner instead of QTP without considering the cost?

    Thanks,
    Manikandan

Is cost your only consideration? What are your other requirements?

What you need to is an evaluation project of suitable automation tools.

The project I am on we started with TestPartner this was forced on the project by the vendor of the AUT. I arrived 18 mnths into the project and the automation efforts were a mess. Why? They did an evaluation project between TP and QTP, QTP was seen as the better tool (QTP 8.2) but this was over ruled because the vendor of the AUT was using TP.

After 2 weeks I had TP out and QTP in TP was causing real issues with the AUT the vendor of the AUT claimed to not have the problems we were, but later we found that someone had coded around the app crashes caused by TP and this was "not" reported in the results!!!!

This isnt a QTP is better than TP post the above is to highlight that you need to have a proper evaluation project to choose a tool.

To put the flip side to the story Ian told, but to also reinforce his point, I had exactly the opposite situation, where QTP was the poorer choice for the project and TP was better. So it goes both ways.

Ian is absolutely correct - you can't make a decision based on limited factors. You really need to see the tool work against what you are going to be using it for. It can be the cheapest tool in the world, but if it doesn't do what you need it to do, it is shelfware. The same can be said for the most expensive tool in the world.
