Testing IBM WebSphere Portal applications with QTP

    Hi,

Any one knows whether or not we can use QTP for automating Portal Application developed using IBM WebSphere Portal Server. These applications uses java as the programming language (But it has it's own API from IBM). If we can, do we need any plugin for this? Please let me know in-detail.

    Thanks for your help

Best thing to do is download an eval copy of QTP and try it. The eval copy will allow for 14 days to test.

I think you can use QTP to test the function of such application, but if you want test the performance of the server .you should use other software.

It depends what the front-end to the WebSphere server is developed in.

It's just like a web application. We can access through any browser.

Re: Testing IBM WebSphere Portal applications with QTP

QTP should support as it operates at level 7 of the OSI (I think, please correct me if I,m wrong), if you have any embedded JAVA controls you may have to purchase the JAVA addin but should record/playback OK.

It's only when you use a tool that operates below level 7 (e.g. LoadRunner) that you have to consider the "back-end"

I automated some webpages which were "fuelled" by WebSphere Message Queue Integrator and we had no problems.
