    Re: How to store encrypted password into a variable

    If you dont want to store password anywhere..but directly use encrypted one(or store encrypted pwd in excelfile itself) then...

    use "Password Encryptor" tool that will encrypt the password and displays the encrypted one. Copy that and paste it in ur excel-file or anywhere else.
    To find "Password Encryptor" goto:

    Go to Windows Start > Programs > QuickTest Professional > Tools > Password Encryptor

    You can also fill in the unencrypted password in the excel file and then right click on the cell you will find and option to encrypt the selected cells in the menu that pops up.

    I would put my requirements clear as under:
    I have to connect to database using connection object which requires a password, i donot want the enencrypted password to be displayed in the QTP scripts.

    Re: How to store encrypted password into a variable

    You need to make an exncryption and decryption algorithm your self and that too would not help you in the way the person who has access to your script can get the password any way.

    But you can make it as a input parameter to the main Action and that would need you to make the run from an external script which will have a password. So any other person can see your script but cannot run it without that password.

    Well in the end i would say there is no total secure solution to this.

    Re: How to store encrypted password into a variable

    Have you thought of pointing to an external .xml file with the password in that? I believe that the easiest way is to set it as a user-defined environment file (test>settings>environment)

    The file could be as simple as this:

    <environment>
    <variable>
    <name>password</name>
    <value>[your password]</value>
    <variable>
    <environment>

    If you read the string as an environment setting you could use the following code to pull the password and set the field to the encrypted data.

    [object].SetSecure Crypt.Encrypt(Environment("password"))

    Hope that helps!
