Can we add additional documentation to steps in QTP? In the keyword view, QTP adds its own documentation to the recorded activity. But can we add additional documentation? Eg. If we split one test case into 2 actions, can we add some comments which will appear in the documentation section of the keyword view?
Thanks in Advance.
To add a comment in Keyword View, select a step and choose Insert > Step > Comment, or right-click a step and choose Insert Step > Comment. The Insert Comment dialog box opens.there type the comment that you need.
The document entries come from the actions taken by the user when performing the initial recordin g of a script (at an educated guess). So i would say no from a standalone point of QTP, but this might not be the same if one is using QTP in conjunction with Quality Center.....
Max, I am not sure about QC, but in other cases, for user defined functions we can add documentation. I was looking for za direct way to add some documentation to the keyword view.
This will be very helpful if possible, especially in manual testing and also in understanding the script by non- programmers.
I don't think there is a direct way of adding documentation unless you use the Function definition generator, pass the data into a VBScript and then when the VBS file is called using the RegisterUserFunc..... then the Documentation column in Keyword view is populated.
Yes that is true. Ideally that is for user defined functions. We can as well do it for QTP standard methods. Eg. If we bind a function with some documentation to Page.Sync, each tome the sync is called the same documentation is repeated. And we have to do similar process for each of the methods of the page object...
