    Re: Read text from Status Bar

    Add the status bar to your Repository, then use the my_var = ("Statusbarname").GetROProperty ("text") method
    I'm not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

    Re: Read text from Status Bar

    okay,

    in QTP, click Tools -> Object Repository

    In the Object Repository screen, click the Add Objects Button.

    Now point the wee hand over the status bar that you would like to get the text out of. It will then be added to your Repository, and in a VB app will be something along the lines of:
    vbWindow("windowname").winstatusbar("Statusbarname ")

    To read it's text value, you put the followiung command into the expert view in QTP:

    sStatusBarText = window("windowname").WinStatusBar("statusbarname") .GetROProperty("text")

    where windowname is the name of the window that the status bar is in and statusbar is the name of the statusbar in the repository.

    Example on Google's website would be:
    sStatusBarText = Browser("Google").WinStatusBar("msctls_statusbar32 ").GetROProperty("text")

    If I execute the above line when the google web page loads, sStatusBarText will be set to "Done"

    Does this help?
