Recording scripts for Oracle
We are evaluating QTP for use with Oracle Applications 11.5.9 and 11.5.10.
We are very green on this. I have one simple question...
If I record a script that fills in a form in oracle, how does QTP identify the fields? Are they automatically entered in to the datasheet or do we need to edit the script and change them to variables that point to the datasheet?
Re: Recording scripts for Oracle
QTP would record your actions exactly as you perform them. So for example when you fill out your form if you enter Name = Tom then that is what the script will do each and every time. It will record the object and it's properties into the Repository, and the value for that field at run-time would be static.
The script doesn't automatically use the datasheet. If you want to use the data sheet to have a different name entered for each test, then you can parameterize the data. That is done when you edit the scripts, and is a very basic function of QTP. When you evaluate QTP, look up parameterization or data-driving tests. I hope I have understood your question.
