I'm trying to learn QTP Tool and was wondering what Regular Expressions are? What are they used for ?
How do I create a Database query ? I understand that there is a wizard and it mentions about a Micosoft Query . What is that?
I'm a newbie and very unfamiliar with the terms used.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
You should be able to find the explanations and descriptions to your questions in the help filesand/or the User's Guide manual. Also familiarise yourself with the tool by going through the tutorial..... failing that there is always the Mercury QTP courses you could attend (if your employer will stump up the cash )
Microsoft Query is the Microsoft SQL version of Oracle SQL (Serial Query Language). One book on this i can recommend to you if you are an SQL virgin(as it were) is Oracle PL/SQL 101 (McGraw Hill publishers), ISBN number 0-07-212606-x it retails at around $40.00.
Actually, Microsoft Query is small application that is free but also ships with MS Office. It is used as a database front end for building querys (aka. SQL statements). Transact-SQL is MS's query language, not "Microsoft SQL".
Also, regular expressions and database queries are two totally different things. I would recommend learning regular expression syntax on your own and getting a dba or developer to show you how to use MS Query. MS Query is not really covered in the Mercury Class material but the instructor could help, if you decide to go that route.
I hope this helps you !!
Prior to using regular expressions in QTP I would search the MI support site for "regex".
RE's in QTP do not work exactly like RE's in VB and the regex search should help explain this.
Hey MaxJ you still up for coming to work with me on the big health project? I got 3 automated testers, 2 are from the business, they know the apps but have no automated experience and one guy has done "some Winrunner" in the past (not much use with the current timescales.
I'm working on getting you onboard as I need your help.
