    distributed testing

    hi,

i have the following requirement and was wondering if somebody's experience could

    speak!

let us say i have a test that has 6 steps to be performed.

now, i want step1 to step4 to be performed on machine 'a' and collect some output

which i would then drive as the input to step5 at machine 'b'. i want this machine

'a' and 'b' to be controlled from machine 'c'. now, machine 'c' should collect the

output from the other machines, do some programmatic stuff as step6.

i could afford to have testdirector and qtp, but then, is the above distributed

model feasible in a object-oriened programmatic way ?

    thanks

    Re: distributed testing

I often have the need to bombard a number of machines with similar (randomized) scripts, but they are contingent on account creation as well as some preliminary activities.

I usually achieve this by the use of semaphore files on a centrally accessible server. I begin all scripts at once (either manually or via a program like rexec) and the first one that creates a semaphore file process the appropriate script. Others just sit idle until the first machine deletes the file at which point they all continue processing.

    Re: distributed testing

great. rexec - that would then need a rexec daemon to connect to, is apparently unavailable on xp/2k environments. do you use any commercial ones ?

also, would you enlighten us upon how you use and implement semaphores ?

i aim that these are qtp/testdirector based solutions.

have i had to write my own c++ code with dcom, i would need these tools for little, if not nothing.

[in my original post, i find it painful that step5 on 'machine b' would also need qtp to perform a simple operation]
