Can i used QTP for Automation testing of Power builder Application . Which tools is preferable
Winruneer or QTP not regarding powerbuilder but as whole .
Re: QTP compatibility
Laku -- you can use QTP on PowerBuilder, but it will only work in low level mode; So, it will see objects, but not what they are. The methods available to you will be Click and Type, most everything will be based on either XY coordinates or Index and Location, and checkpoints will be limited in what they can validate.
As to which tool is prefereable, that is too broad of a question. It depends on the environment...so for PowerBuilder or Delphi, I would choose WinRunner, but for .NET, QTP is the right answer. Also depends on the technical ability of your team, and the depth to which you wish to test. QTP is much easier initially, but if you are going to really get into the details, ultimately they are both scrripting tools, and any good, technically proficient tester should be able to use them both to accomplish the same goals. My personal preference is QTP, but that is most likely because I am just visually oriented.
