Cannot connect with 127.0.0.1:8000 while doing UFT API Tutorial

    Hello,

While following the UFT API Testing Tutorial importing WSDL through URL, using the URL http://localhost:8000/HPFlights_SOAP?WSDL
gives you the same error "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refuse it 127.0.0.1:8000"

What does it mean and can I fix it?

    Thanks.
    Gilbert

    Gilbert,
I did not try the UFT API tutorial from HP.
Have you tried Joe Colantonio's book? I thought it was well written but the examples usually did not work on UFT 14. I let Joe know and he is taking a look.
If you are using an earlier version of UFT maybe Joe's book would work for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Kevin,

I submitted a ticket to our IT Security Team and the very next morning, I was able to complete the UFT API Testing Tutorial. So it is some security settings in our work PCs that must have been changed and made the error I was getting disappear.
We are still using the older version 12.53 of UFT. My old boss would have let me try out version 14 already but, my new boss wants to wait at least 6 months or a year before trying out latest versions of software tools we use.

I did not try Joe Colantonio's book. When he launched version 1, he gave me a copy to review. I reviewed and gave Joe my comments/suggestions then I deleted my copy since I never thought that I will be involved in API testing. Now, I am.

I am also checking out this API Test Generator Wizard tool included in UFT. Have you tried?
So far, I've tried like 4-5 WSDLs and the scripts were generated fine but quite a few errors mainly "500 : InternalServerError" showing up in the Results.
Another thing I'll be checking out is the other tool for converting SoapUI scripts to UFT API scripts. Just to see how well this works.

    Thanks,
    Gilbert

500 errors are generally unknown application errors, typically caused by a SUT (software under test) exception or fault. If you're getting a 500, it probably means something inside the API server. Mostly likely not an IT network or firewall issue, those generally don't return status codes at all as you're not able to hit the server.

    Gilbert,
I liked Joe's API book very much. I just wish the examples worked for me. I think that I was following the examples correctly. I was on an Amtrak Autotrain and was relaxed and reading each stop slowly so I don't expect that I was missing any parts. I'm expecting that Joe will update the book for UFT 14.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

David Lai, Thank you for your input.

Kevin, Joe Colantonio emailed me about 2-3 weeks ago telling me that he just released version 2 of his book so that one might work with UFT version 14.

    Thanks.

Most likely it's not the version of UFT. UFT shouldn't cause an API server to crash. The first place I'd probably would check is the dependencies of the API server and get it running in a healthy state before using UFT or other testing tool.
