UFT is really easy to use, just download and install the trial version. That way you will get tutorials and up to date documentation. Additionally, if you do a google search on combinations of learn, tutorial, qtp and uft you'll find plenty of sites that can help you get started quickly. Note though that UFT is not cheap, you might be better off looking at other tools if your institute doesn't have a lot of money.
Download UFT 12.5 from the HP website - you'll get a free trial for 28 days or a month (I can't remember which) and this will also give you access to the user guide.
UFT12.5 is completely different from WinRunner - even QTP was a significant change from WinRunner (which was retired ~ a decade ago).
For licensing, you can save some money by connecting to an HP SaaS license server, instead of setting up and managing your own - have a look on the SaaS.HP.com website.
