With UFT Gone, what to do....
OK, First of all, I have been lucky in life... Been working for companies that used QTP from the days before it was called that (Mercury days)
But now.... Now I find myself working for a GREAT company.... cool product...
but very little in the way of $$$ for testing tools
I looked into Selenium2, but (Aside from the Selenium-Firefox IDE which is ...terrible) I am having a hard time with it (No clear documentation, no GOOD test result setup, no IDE to speak of)
Anyone know of something in the... I dunno... "QTP-Lite" family?
If you're looking for record and playback for selnium, Selenium Builder - The next evolution, is a better choice than selenium IDE. That product is basically just on lifesupport.

Generally people don't use Selenium because of cost savings. Real QEs (there are alot of QE's by title only), SETs and SDETs have a much higher salary than the average mid level developer. It takes a lot of programming know how to write highly parallelized tests and deal with asynchronous programming issues. My preference to Selenium is because it's a open source programming API instead of a vendor locked tool, it makes it easier to integrate into a dev and build process.
There are lots of tutorials and such out there on youtube to help you get started on Selenium. But if you're looking for a good structured intro a paid class like this one could be a worthwhile investment. https://www.udemy.com/selenium-2-web...ics-with-java/
I like my Seasoft Selenium Tranining Classes. It is individualized training on NetMeeting.
Since the company is not wanting to assist you by purchasing UFT, then use the time to investigate other shareware products.
If you happen to run into a good solution it will be good for both sides. Other wise watch out for yourself.
Thanks all, especially Dave L, but I sense I inadvertently steered the discussion the wrong way. I am looking for a solution NOT involving selenium that allows for detailed recording, recording modification, and playback. The recording phase is just to collect objects rapidly... The effort is in the modification phase...
Autoit3 is one example... Are there others?
Have you tried Selenium Builder? It provides what you are asking for much better than the IDE. I wouldn't suggest giving up on Selenium so quickly. It is the #1 web testing tool out there right now and skill with it is in high demand.
TestComplete is a good qtp alternative with a qtp like experience. Cheaper than QTP, but not free.
