I am maintaining existing code. I am on QTP 11. IE 8.
I have a .WebButton with .object.SourceIndex It returns a 3 digit numeric. It is used further in the code. I"m wondering what it is. An old article shows it returning empty. Does anyone know what it is used for?
when an HTML page is displayed, a tree is created in the memory. Each node in tree is given a Index and the index is called sourceIndex. This feature is only on IE. You can use this sourceIndex directly and pull the object from tree. But since tree can change based on HTML, this property cannot be used reliably. Only situations it can be used is when it is fetched dynamically and used. And since it is not cross browser compatible it should be avoided
