UFT 11.5 hangs at startup (Win7x64)
I've installed UFT 11.50 recently (upgrade from QTP 10), but I am not able to start it. I tried a number of things, but I am not able to get it to startup. This is what happens:
- I close open programs
- I start UFT
- I see it validating the license
- I select Java, Web and .NET Add-ins (And UFT license) (but also without any Add-Ins selected it won't work)
- I press OK
- Nothing happens anymore... The splash screen stays there... just rotating the background image colors, but that's all.
It will do this for as long as you want... When I click in the splash, Windows instantly ask me whether I want to continue waiting or close the application... So to Windows it's dead already.
I uninstalled and reinstalled everything (including 10) and tried again, but to no avail. I upgraded to 11.52 and patch 1, but also... no success.
I checked the Windows Event Log and this is logged there:
The program UFT.exe version 11.52.778.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Were you logged on as a user with administrative rights when you installed the software?
When you start the program are you right-clicking it and selecting "Run As Admin"?
How much memory does your system have?
How much free disk space does your system have?
(Opinions and information contained in this post are wholly my own and do not reflect the opinions of my employer.)
Yes, on advice of HP Support I reinstalled with admin rights, and I also start with admin rights (Right click -> Run as Administrator) and also did the (first) start with Admin rights.
However, no difference. I have 8GB of RAM and usally I have about 4 GB free. I have 18 GB of disk space available.
I'll now remove everything and disable UAC and DEP (also on advice of HP Support), but to be honest I don't really believe that this matters and if it does, it would be really terrible of HP to have this requirement to install UFT.
Have you tried clean uninstalled UFTon your machine? Please try to follow this guideline
i had a similar issue while upgrading to 11 from 10, and repair/reinstall didnt work.
But a clean uninstall and then installing QTP11 worked for me - uninstall, clean the registory, remove the QTP folder in C drive
Has anyone found a solution to this? I am having the same problem on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. I have performed all the uninstall steps for registry keys, files, folders, assemblies, etc. I am an admin, uac and dep are off.
Support is less than helpful. Their only suggestion so far is to re-install and to run the app in Safe mode. Safe mode actually seems to work, but that doesn't tell me where the problem is. This machine was also an upgrade from QTP 11, but I followed all the steps for a clean removal.
In the past, there had been issues with the some Video Drivers. Check if that's the case.
You could also disable Anti-Virus software & then try to Launch UFT.
I have it running on a VM ESXi 5.1. I have disable my anti-virus software... during uninstall, re-install, and app launch. I can get it to launch immediately after bootup, but that's it. I can try to see if I can change the video settings for the vm.
Not many options with the video on the VM. I tried allocating more memory to the video (128 MB), but that didn't help. Support had me download and run a debugger from MSDN. It runs and monitors the specified exe. Funny thing is, UFT launched every time while the debugger was running. With the debugger closed, the app hangs on launch. I did some more testing and had the app launch while the debugger was running, but I couldn't record any scripts. Something is definitely broken
I think that during QTP and UFT install it says to install the MS debugger. Could it be that that it did not install the debugger? In QTP there was a program in the MS Windows 7 start window to install required software for QTP. Maybe they have this in UFT. Try installing the debugger again.
