"Message from webpage" pop up in Firefox not visible in QTP
The pop up dialog "Message from webpage" which is seen perfectly by QTP when using Internet Explorer is not seen at all when Firefox is used. Part of the issue seems to be that in Firefox (versions 15 and 18), this pop up is displayed without a caption or title text.
Has anyone seen this before and if so, how did you handle it?
Can you please try this
about:config in Address bar and search for setting related to pop-up
Thanks Yogi. I'll tried your suggestion. What settings should I be looking for?
Actually, our developers are looking into fixing this thing since the whole Title Bar is missing in Firefox. Just wondering if there is any QTP Add-ins I need to install to handle this, in case it is not an issue from dev team.
When you Spy on this dialog in Firefox, QTP only sees the object(s) underneath (as if this dialog does not exist since the OK and Cancel buttons are not seen as well as the Message text).
In IE, it seems like the generic/common pop up dialog is "Message from webpage".
Not sure what is the equivalent in Firefox? and in Chrome too?
Here is my about:config settings:
browser.history.allowPopState = true
browser.popups.showPopupBlocker = true
dom.popup_maximum = 20
privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins = 2
privacy.popups.policy = 1
privacy.popups.showBrowserMessage = true
privacy.popups.usecustom = true

I also checked Properties in my config and they are looking correct.
I am not sure patch details. But what is you QTP version , and any patch,add-in installed?
Yeah nothing wrong with your settings, that's just a generic error message from IE in specific. Something your developers should address.
I'm working with FireFox 18 and QTP 11. This is the list of patches I am using. Not everyone is for Firefox, but it is the complete set I am using.
QTP_00709 for HP QuickTest Professional 11.00 QFE
QTPWEB_00090 for HP QuickTest Professional 11.00
QTP_00925 for HP QuickTest Professional 11.00
QTPWEB_00112 for HP QuickTest Professional 11.00
QTPWEB_00122 for HP QuickTest Professional 11.00
This is behavior you would see manually as well. Nothing to do with qtp patches...
I'm also working with QTP 11 and Firefox 18.
The patches I have installed are very similar to yours except I did not install QTPWEB_00112 (Add support for Firefox versions 15-16) and QTP_00925 (Save to QC/ALM error fixed).
I also installed RRV_00019 (Critical General Release for Run Results Viewer cumulative patch).
As NoUse4aName mentioned, this dialog is a generic message box (use not only for Errors) from IE. Would be nice to know what the equivalent generic message box is displayed by Firefox.
In other browsers it just comes up blank as you're seeing.
IE does a lot of nonsense that isn't called for in specs.
Just got a new build and our dev team still has not addressed the issue. If you happen to know how your dev team took care of this issue, can you please share so I can let our dev team know how it is done? (Hopefully, they know already.)
In Google Chrome, this generic pop up dialog box shows the Title Bar with the caption like "The page at <your URL> says:" so I think QTP should see this (I have not tried yet).
Any known work-arounds for the meantime?
Maybe something like doing a SendKeys with the <Enter> key or the <Cancel> key?
