QTP license server problem
We are experiencing problems with the QTP license server not handing out licenses properly. Here's our situation:
We have a few FT Unified 1.0/FTAddins 1.0 licenses, but mostly we have UnifiedFunctionalTesting 1.0 licenses. The ratio is 7 to 44. We have multiple VMs that use the these licenses, but not nearly enough to max out what we have.
Sometimes when the automation testers are running tests, some VMs will display an error message saying there are no more licenses left. I check the server, and all of the FT licenses will be used, while there are plenty of UFT licenses available. I simply click through the error message, and many times it will continue. I took out the FT license keys, and the problem happened a LOT more, but it was not 100% of the time.
From what I gather after looking at the flow chart that a QTP client goes through when getting a license, If there are no other licenses available other than UFT, it should use the UFT license. HP confirmed that with me, saying that UFT covers what FT covers.
My question is - are these tests that are causing the error message possibly ones created using an FT license? Does that even matter? I've had a ticket out with HP for almost 4 months with no resolution.
Re: QTP license server problem
Chad, that would be my assumption as well. I cannot suggest a actual problem, but a possible workaround that we have used in past. We use to remote checkout licenses for all our lab machines, this way QTP loads faster as the license is local. The machine which are used by developers still use the normal license through server
