I have always used In the options Save Still image captures to results. But I am using Descriptive Programming and it is of no help to capture the still image.
I have never used Save movie results. Can anyone advise if Saving move to results is a good option. I have noticed that since our Management is in transition, I feel there is more scrutiny on QA than anyone else. Saving results and space is not a huge resource constraint.
I create these movie file for all the scenarios and save them, When ever there is any change in the application, i would use them as reference, to show the developers where the changes in GUI they have done and how much it impacted us, if they do any changes with our prior information.
They can be used as a reference by the manual team for KT purpose(Scenarios) for all new joiners.
How long do your QTP tests take to run and are you running them from Qualiy Center?
The reason being that the recorded movie can be quite large for a long test run, which takes a long time to upload to QC after the test run and also to download the results from QC. Test it out, we're currently trialing this for all of our QC test runs as we find it really useful when going back through failures.
When I run all the scripts during a deployment night it takes me over three hours to execute all the iterations from QC. Is there a way to record the movies When the url is production. So whenever I run them on QA Environment the Movie is not captured. And this will be helpful to save when just needed. And I need not worry about setting the Options in Tools>Run>Screen Capture etc
you can use vbscripting to modify the options settings depending on the environment you are using:
for example :
Dim App 'As Application
Set App = CreateObject("QuickTest.Application")
App.Visible = True
'below is the option you need to setup if you are using Production environment. make sure save movies to results option is unchecked in tools->options->Run(screen capture).
