I need to automate a GUI application in a unix server(clicking buttons, entering values etc)
Should i use putty(i don't know what it is, just explored in google)? or any other solution?

The basic funda to recognize objects using QTP is that QTP + AUT should be in the same machine.
However since your AUT is in Unix and QTP does not support, So you would not be able to automate.
Putty is a tool used to establish the connection from local machine to Remote machines (Unix/Linux). You could perform basic operations using the unix commands.
I hope you were clear now.
when things gets harder ,the harder gets going
thanks for the reply.
So using putty, we can send some unix commands from my windows 7 machine to that unix server? AUT requires some mouse operations(clikc, drag drop) as well
for that you need to have a network tunneling to establish the connecting between remote and your machine contact you Admin.
i am given server name and credentials to connect through VNC tool(it's like remote desktop). Is this what you meant by network tunneling?
Yes, i meant the same.
