Is it possible to use ADO or data access methods?

I need to know whether it is possible to run SQL queries/stored procedures from within QTP 11. We are running SQL Server 2008 as our backend.

If it is possible I would appreciate code samples or links to code samples/help.

    Thanks in advance...

There has to be some data access object resident to QTP, right?

ultimately you will be verifying some data of database table right? Why can't you use database checkpoint where you can configure connection string?

Re: Is it possible to use ADO or data access methods?

Just as a trial I tried setting up a Database Checkpoint and it wouldn't accept my query as being valid. It told me "Operation is not allowed when the object is closed". I tried a couple of simple SQL statements thinking it was the connection string but it had no problems.

Has anyone seen this generic message before and may be able to translate it?

    csmack,

There are lot of posts on this topic. You could have searched for ADODB :-)

For Connection Strings, look at http://www.connectionstrings.com/sql-server-2008

I hope you configured proper DSN setting first. SQL SERVER is the last option in the list

Re: Is it possible to use ADO or data access methods?

    Hi

It is possible to run Stored Proc in QTP...

Use the proper connection string for the Data base Connection. Make sure that u have SQL Client installed on the machine u r trying to run the QTP Test...

Try and let us know the error u r getting while accessing the result set.

    Thanks!!

Re: Is it possible to use ADO or data access methods?

yes you can run the SP from QTP, search the forum and you will find the posts.

or else if you have pl/sql script even then you can run the scripts.

first connect to db using any client and execute it manually later using QTP try the same.
