Combine output of previous component with keyword
I'm creating a BPT keyword automation framework for a web application. Each business component represents a web page in the application and the input parameters for the business component represent objects on the page. Testers specify what actions they want to perform on the objects by providing keywords as the value of the input parameters (e.g. <ENTER>123456, <CLICK>, etc...)
The problem I am having is when I take the output of the previous component for the input of another ("Output of previous component" option). I cannot combine a keyword with this value (the parameter value field is locked). For example, creating a client in a component and then passing the client id to the next component where I want to search using the client id. I can't combine a "<FIND>" keyword with the client id.
When you select "Output of previous component" the parameter value field is locked. Is there any way of concatenating values/keywords with the output of previous components in QC? Does anyone have a solution or know of a work around for this problem in QC or QTP?
I'm using QTP 11.00 and QC 10.00.
Re: Combine output of previous component with keyword
To answer my own question, for BPT, fixed values cannot be combined with the output of previous components or runtime parameter values directly in QC 10.
There is no real solution to this limitation but there are some workarounds like using memory/INI files etc..., to store output of previous components or runtime values and then combine them with fixed values.
