    Recovery Scenarios with Descriptive programming

    Hi,

This is interview question one of my friend received.

How can you implement Recovery Scenarios using Descriptive programming?

In my opinion, we can handle Recovery Scenarios with Descriptive programming only If we know When the pop up message will appear.

Can anyone provide the correct answer to the above question.

    THanks,
    Neha.

Re: Recovery Scenarios with Descriptive programming

I mean you can write a function to handle the popup window/dialog using Descriptive programming and then associate the function to the Recovery Scenario. Then associate the same to the test.

U need to know the dialog that might popup, that you would once you plan to create a Recovery Scenario.

I have not used these, so relatively new. Do corret me, if I do tend to mention something wrong in this post.
    Thanks,

Re: Recovery Scenarios with Descriptive programming

I believe they interviewer wants to know how you handle errors in DP in general and not necessarily on recovery scenario per se –and sometimes they just can’t structured their questions. I was asked this question and I my answer is below. Interviewer said my answer was satisfactory.
    You can handle errors by:
    OptionalStep
    On error resume next
    On error go to 0
    Some “if else” statements
Of course you can build a Recovery Scenario if you know what and when it going to pop up. Be care full if the error happens in to first few (4) lines in the script, recovery scenario may not handle it. My experience is that recovery scenarios do not naturally handle errors in the first few lines.
Has anyone experienced this issue with recovery scenario?

Re: Recovery Scenarios with Descriptive programming

I have successfully used the recovery scenario in few projects.

My answer to Neha's question is :

You can create a new recovery scenario in which you can define the Pop up / Error message dialog / object property to be a regular expression in the "Select Trigger event " Step.

While specifying Object property you can define it to be a regular expression.

In Recovery Operation you can call to a function which can recover from the unexpected situations.

Save the recovery scenario. here if you see that you are not defining the Popup dialog Property, But you are making the title of the popup / dialog to be a regular expression.
