I am trying to write the excel spreadsheet for my programmer and trying to find out the extents of QuickTest functions. I have a huge serious of test cases that are attempting to be tested. Each test case holds a state, up to 5 variables and then a sequence series of questions to look for on a program.
I am trying to make my excel spreadsheet the best it possibily can be so I am trying to peak out the functionality on it so that this excel sheet never needs to be updated in the future.
The program inputs data from a different spreadsheet and upon finishing a section on the spreadsheet it transfers over to my current sheet to look for the same state, variables and then looks at the test questions associated with those that match that test case.
Therefore, if I am looking up dwellings in IL and do not want to list many test cases for each type of dwelling is it possible to list a serious of numbers in a cell for QuickTest to loop through to find the dwelling code I am looking.
State-----Rate Class---Dwelling Code----Sequence numbers
Is it possible to look up New York, rate class D, Dwelling code 75 to find its matching sequence numbers?
I was hoping to run a loop on each section and have it check for that specifc letter or number type? Loop to find NY and then loop to find rate class D and loop a 3rd time to find code 75.
If you know a simple code that i can present to my programmer that would be ideal but i am mostly just looking to see if this is even possible because he is new to this language as well as I.
I can attach a excel spreadsheet example if needed.
Re: Functionality Question
a) Create a config file that lists all input-output table names you care about.
b) load sheets listed in the config file into different data-tables in your test
ci) Do whatever comparisons you want between values within your datatables, While doing this write your results of such comparisons as you discover them via appending to a file which grow as the test progresses. (results file can be whatever form you like (eg csv etc)).
d) At the end of your test force an explicit test end (or it may repeat the operation as many times as one of your datatables have rows - this can happen if your new to datatables (look into environment variable testiteration (not sure on the right name) )
Re: Functionality Question
reading a little about datatables may make their life a lot easier.
Here is a link where many users have donated functions
that do these and other useful operations.
If they are learning QTP - sort this forum's threads by "views".. those that have huge hits usually are super-useful and would reveal user donated functions like the thread linked above.
