I am currently using Rational Robot and I plan to evaluate QTP for my organization. I am curious if QTP has a method to distribute testing over multiple PCs similar to Robot. I currently have over 100 hours of automated testing that gets performed on our software application. I run the testing several times a month. The last time I run the testing each month it is time sensitive and needs completed in 6 or 7 hours. With Rational Robot I am able to go to 1 PC and start up the testing and tell it to distribute the testing over 20 PCs.
Does QTP have this feature??
If QTP does have this ability how does the licensing work?? Am I required to have a full QTP license on each of the 20 PCs?
Robot has special licenses called Virtual Users (or Test Agents) that allow you to execute a script on a PC but it does not require a full Rational Robot license on that PC. These licenses are a LOT cheaper. I have 20 of these and they cost less than 1 Robot license. Unfortunately, Rational plans to discontinue these Virtual User licenses and I am being forced to look at other software products or pay 10 times more for my licensing needs.
I noticed that AutomatedQA TestComplete software products does offer this type a licenses and it is called TestExecute. I was hoping to find other products besides TestComplete that also offer this type of licensing so I can evaluate multiple products instead of just hoping TestComplete meets my needs.%
Re: Distributed Testing
Sounds like for that case you would need Quality Center(handles the distribution) and 20 qtp licenses. They don't have an execute only type license that I'm aware of.
