Open an External data table in read mode

Can I open an External data table in different modes (read , read/write) . In winrunner we could open data table in read mode and in that way more then 1 user could open the file, is it possible to do so in QTP ?

What do you mean by external data table? ..Any external data file like excel or text file?

I don't think there is any file handling "modes" in QTP.

But you can import/export external data files into datatable at runtime(which is an indirect means to read/write data).

My question was, is it possible that 2 different QTP sessions (scripts) can run in parallel and open the same excel files?

Re: Open an External data table in read mode

Actually you can but at not at the same time.

If you are using datatable.import method, make sure the same method is not called at the same time.

Once imported the file is available for use, since the data is now shifted the the datatable and not the external file.

However if the file is open as a instance, then a import command may not work.

One thing to note here is that Winrunner and QTP handle files differently, and you can also look at using Excel COM if you need more flexibility.
    Cheers
