I've been experimenting with a framework driven by an excel spreadsheet and realised that if the object repository is also held in the same workbook, then the framework driver worksheet can be automatically validated, speeding up the setting up of the flow control. Has anyone else tried this?
The approach we use is that the objects are displayed in a drop-down list, thus you cannot select an object that does not exist. Only methods pertinent to the object type are displayed. Page filters and object filters are used to aid object location e.g Customer Account Page & Weblist filter will only display weblists on the Customer Account Page.
For further efficiencies we use a control sheet where you select the tests you want to execute with a Y/N flag, at runtime the tests flagged Y and the mandatory worksheets (Settings, OR, Data) are exported and actioned, thus reducing the overhead of the rest of the workbook being loaded into memory.
