How to work on Grid control using qtp

Our application has all the controls(like deletion, splitting, merging) over lined up orders in grid. We are unable to work out with the orders since while replaying it says object not found for the above all functionalities. Please let me know whether we need to go for descriptive programming to sort out this issue.

Currently we are trying to just record and replay the actions.

    kindly clarify...

Re: How to work on Grid control using qtp

Unless your grid is either one supported by a plug in for QTP or it was written in house using the same messages to query grid properties it will work just as it does now.

Assuming based on your description it's an in-house coded grid, you would need to implement messages to query grid properties which you could then exploit in your tests.

Just spy on the grid. Check whether it is inbuilt grid or Web table.

Make sure proper add-ins are loaded.

If this is a custom in-house grid control. You need to talk to your dev team to implement WIN32 API messages as back door to access the grid. Thats what we did in our case.
