QTP: Kick off vbs script from different PCs

Hi all,

I'm facing this scenario in which I would like to be able to kick-off a vbs file from a differnt workstation (please, see the attachment for more details about it).

What I did so far was:
- Edit the dcmocnf on the WK where QTP is installed
- Put the ip adrress for the WK1 within my vbs file:

Dim App 'As Application
Set App = CreateObject("QuickTest.Application", "ip.ip.ip.ip")
App.Launch
App.Visible = True
App.Open "\\shareddrive\testfolder\testscenario\"
App.Test.Run, True
.
.
.

But i'm getting an error when I try to execute the .vbs file from one of the other WorkStations.

Any idea or suggestion about how I can approach this scenario in abtter way?

Thanks in advance.

Re: QTP: Kick off vbs script from different PCs

In QTP do the follogwing:
1. In menu Tools/Options
2. on node "Run"
3. select "Allow other HP products to run tests and components".

This enables you to run QTP tests on remote computer e.g. via HP Quality Center. As far as I know this is the only way to run scripts on a remote PC.

Hi Tom

Thanks for your answer. Well, I'm pretty aware about QC, but really that is not what I'm looking for.

I've seen other people tackling this issue differently without recurring to QC. All I need is some more clues about how could I get this working.

Thanks anyway.

Re: QTP: Kick off vbs script from different PCs

Are the Dcom settings properly set as stated below?

1. On the computer where you want to run the automation script, choose Start--> Run. The Run dialog box opens.

2. Enter DCOMCNFG and click OK. The Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog box or the Component Services window opens (depending on your operating system) and displays the list of COM applications available on the computer.

3. Select QuickTest Professional Automation from the list and open the Properties dialog box for the application. (Click the Properties button or right-click and choose Properties, depending on your operating system.)

4.In the QuickTest Professional Automation Properties dialog box, click the Security tab.

5.In the launch permissions section, choose the custom option and click Edit.

6.Use the Add and Remove options to select the network users or groups for which you want to allow or deny permission to launch QuickTest Professional via an automation script. When you are finished, click OK to save your settings.

7.Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the configuration permissions section to select the users or groups who can modify QuickTest Professional configuration options via an automation script.

8.In the QuickTest Professional Automation Properties dialog box, click the Identity tab and select the interactive user option.

9.Click OK to save the QuickTest Professional Automation Properties settings.

10.Click OK to close the Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog box or the Component Services window.

Re: QTP: Kick off vbs script from different PCs

Can you try by adding the user to security TAB of Quick test automation service.

If this does not work. Work around would be kicking off a vb script in the QTP machine with QTP AOM script.

I have attached simple scripts. you may try this.

these scripts require shared folders 'C:\autorun' on QTP installed machine

1. save the attached files with .vbs

2. copy the caller and driver scritps to invoking machine

3. copy the receiver script to QTP machines and make sure you have write permissions to shared folders in the QTP machnes

4. invoke receiver.vbs on QTP machine

5. invoke caller.vbs from invoking machine

this is just a simple work around implementation I thought of
