My employer is considering using Quick Test Pro as a testing solution, however I am unfamiliar with the ins and outs of the software package.
Can this be used as a crawling engine/ data extraction tool as well?
If not can anyone recommend a robust tool that does allow crawling of a secured site and data extraction programmatically.
Also does this support SQL?
QTP allows everything that you may do with VB.
U may create connection to DB and execute sql-statement
Nobody is Perfect... i'm Nobody...
To put it straight.. whatever that can be performed manually on an application can more often than not be performed automatedly using QTP..!!!
I think QTP may not be much suitable for doing crawling and data extraction due to speed/time constraint.
Better you can use c#.net webbrowser control. You can refer our blog for more details.
eBook for learning Software Testing and QTP
QTP can definately solve your crawling challanges. It can also do data extraction, although HP is looking at this is a separate problem to be solved. If/when it will be, it will also be into QTP and QC.
Any information given by me in this blog is done not as part of my formal job and on a personal level due to my interests.
