wait till a process gets completed.

i don't know that how much time a step takes to complete , then how to make the qtp wait until that step completes .

    Use synchronization point for that.
Put a synch point on the object's property which you expect to be after completing that action.

yes , i agree with you .but while inserting a sync point don't we specify time out and i have said clearly in my question that i don't how much time it'll take.
for eg:if sync point timeout is 1000 seconds ,and that step takes 1500 seconds then the test must not fail , rather it must wait for until that step gets completed.can we do this in qtp ?
can anyone give me a hint ?

Try Loop around the object that you think will be visible after the completion of the process.

    <font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>
    While not object.Exist
    wait (5)
    Wend
    </pre><hr />

Re: wait till a process gets completed.

In that case you should give the MAX time expected.

Its okie that you are not aware how much time will that action take, but for any application there are some MAX time taken to respond specified in the project.
If ant application takes more than the expected time, in that can the quality of the application is not as expected.

So, if you expect that operation should take MAX of 2hrs, put that as 2hrs. There is no harm in that, because if that operation completes before that it will start executing next steps.
